Boy Scouts get a hand from George Reed

August 1, 2014 | By | No Comments

George Reed was recently given the opportunity to be a part of a community service project for the Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts of America troop number 302 was recently presented with a task of upgrading the Student Court at Calaveras High School in San Andreas. The court is located between classrooms and is a major thoroughfare for the students. The area in question was all dirt and would get muddy in the rainy season. The Boy Scouts were asked to determine a way to clean up the area, making it more user friendly in inclement weather.

During the process, they did a cost estimate, comparing different methods such as concrete vs. crush rock. In the end, they determined that they could get a usable and cost effective method using crush rock for the area.  George Reed was able to donate the crush rock from our Clements Plant and Black Diamond Aggregates Trucking was able to donate the trucking. The project was a success and the students now have a much more user friendly Student Court. Thank you Boy Scouts of America troop number 302 for giving us the opportunity to help you achieve your goal.

Reed rock plants pass surprise inspections

July 28, 2014 | By | No Comments

As you may know we operate 3 Rock Plants that fall under the jurisdiction of the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA). During the year all these plants receive two, unannounced safety inspections from Federal MSHA Inspectors, these inspections are comprehensive and rigorous and can last for days, and nothing is overlooked including the required paperwork. Anyone who has experienced one of these inspections knows how difficult it is not to receive at least one or two citations before it’s over, as a matter of fact, receiving one or two citations is considered a good inspection.

This week we had back to back MSHA inspection, first at the Munn & Perkins Plant and the second at the Table Mountain Plant……….NO CITATION were issued during either inspection!!!!! This is a great accomplishment for all the troops at both plants…….CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Out with the Old, In with the New

July 22, 2014 | By | No Comments

George Reed’s Jackson Valley Quarry, located in Ione CA, has recently experience a transformation from a 1964 model Jaw crusher to a new 2014 model. The 1964 Baxter Jaw Crusher has been crushing rock at the forefront of the Jackson Valley site for over 20 years. Thanks to the ingenuity of the world renowned company Metso and through the services of Compass Equipment Inc. we have been able to update our plant with a high quality 2014 model Metso C-140 (55 in x 42 in) Jaw Crusher. With the right tools in place one is able to minimize down time and reduce cost; and with the Metso C-140, that is just the case. Thanks to the integral design of the C-140, we now have the capability of making crushing adjustments in minutes for what used to take hours. The design of special rubber dampers and stoppers allow the crusher to run more quietly and also reduce wear and subsequent damage to the crusher’s structure and foundation. In less than 10 days with the help of GRI’s team of Operators, American Crane, Compass Equipment Inc., Layman Electric, and Metso we were able to transform our 1964 Jaw Crusher into a state of the art 2014 Jaw Crusher.
